Day Eight of LOCKDOWN!

We've been getting up a little later the past few days as we're slowly adjusting to the clocks going forward. Jory has been endeavouring to keep us on our toes with tidying lately: he enjoys jigsaw puzzles, so every day he has been working through his entire collection, and leaving the pieces everywhere! We no longer have complete puzzles but he still enjoys them anyway.

A bit of dressing up

After PE with Joe, we enjoyed catching up with our friends from one of the home ed groups that we normally attend; about 6 families made it onto a conference call this time, and the kids loved seeing some familiar faces.

Jory is building a garden -his favourite thing to do with Lego (we keep the Lego in the loft room to avoid mixing with other toys)

Tahlia loves stencils -here she is drawing a princess with a stencilled dress

We also did a Mystery Science Experiment - this involves watching a lesson online, then doing the related experiment.

Today, it was looking at how rainbows are made (Tahlia chose it); we let the sun shine through a glass of water and made rainbows on a piece of paper

Stirring to improve the look of the rainbow (it worked better when we lifted the cup)

After doing some maths, Zachary read some more of his Ancient Greece books...

Tales of the Odyssey

A more light-hearted version

Zachary and Tahlia took part in an indoor scavenger hunt

Zachary won

Ptolemy watered the plants for us

We needed some supplies in Aldi (especially the things they didn't have in stock last time). Alas, still no pasta, flour or yeast!

After the kids had a bath, Mummy sent them downstairs to start tidying (while she sorted some things out upstairs), as the house was a mess. On her return downstairs, she realised she'd made a big mistake...

Why tidy when we can open up this bean bag and play with all the tiny balls?

It wasn't only the playroom, these balls seem to have travelled all around the house!

After much tidying this evening, we decided we couldn't face any more, so will finish it off tomorrow...

Day Seven of LOCKDOWN!

We enjoyed quite a relaxed day today, doing a few chores and a few fun things too.

We've been taking part in PE with Joe Wicks every weekday morning since lockdown began

Joe makes PE fun - here we are climbing Fireman Sam's ladder

Lazy Zachary - I told him we'd be going out for a walk later. He complained and said we're not allowed to because the government has said we're only allowed to exercise once a day and we've just done PE with Joe Wicks!

We had fun planting some chilli seeds of three different varieties

Ptolemy lends a hand

Here's Jory planting the tiny seeds

Then they needed watering

It's a competition between the three varieties -which can germinate first, and which will produce the most chillies (we don't think the kids will be eating them though!). Bets are on as to whether we will be eating these chillies before the end of lockdown!

As promised, we ventured out on a walk - this time, around our local neighbourhood, in search of rainbows (in case you're unaware, many parents are getting their kids to make pictures of rainbows to stick up in their windows. That way, people walking past can see and enjoy them).

One of the first rainbows we found

Here we are outside our friend, Harrison's, house. He happened to hear us as we walked past (I can't think how, we're usually so silent!) and popped out of his front door. We had a nice chat from the pavement.

We probably found about 15 rainbows in total (although some houses had two in their windows).

Here we are back at home practising our writing, while Zachary did a human body comprehension (based on a book).

Then we made some tasty banana cookies to use up some old bananas...

Ptolemy enjoys baking the most...and the eating!

Jory also loves to help

Both doing their bit

All done! They all loved eating them for their pudding at tea time.

Day Six of LOCKDOWN!

This morning we enjoyed a family walk along the Exeter Quay in the sun (and cold wind - some of us even wore two coats!).

Crossing the bridge while keeping our distance, until Jory spots a dog!
With not many people about, the poor birds were very hungry!

It's rare to capture a bird in flight, but two is impressive!
They enjoyed a tasty brunch of oats, rice and bread

There weren't many people around

Having a rest

Here's how it feels to be in LOCKDOWN

Climbing on some millstones

They all love bridges

This afternoon, we had a fun board games afternoon...

Zachary explains the rules of the game he made

Ptolemy helped Mummy make some bread sauce for our tea this evening...

...Then tried to hide the fact that he was eating some of the bread

Zachary adds an exercise space in his board game

She didn't realise her photo was being taken!

A special treat - roast beef dinner, with all the trimmings!

Here we are singing some of our Sunday School favourites...
