Our next project is children's literature, looking at some of our favourite books and authors. Today was mainly focused on 'The Gruffalo' by Julia Donaldson...
Reading some of our Gruffalo themed books |
Reading the original Gruffalo story |
We then answered questions based on the story |
One of the 'foods' mentioned in the book is Gruffalo crumble, so we had a go at making some Gruffalo crumble muffins, using grated apple and oats |
Our finished Gruffalo crumble muffins, complete with orange eyes!
Mixing the crumble topping |
We put out some canes for our pea plants to climb up |
We played a Gruffalo edition of 'would you rather' in the front garden |
After doing a Gruffalo jigsaw, Zachary wanted to turn it into a new running game outside |
Running for Zachary's Gruffalo game
Trying to catch Zachary
Counting for hide and seek |
Zachary was delighted to notice that there are quite a few cherries growing on our tree! |
And gooseberries are coming too! |
Tahlia and Zachary want to make their own band out of things around the house |
As Daddy is working quite a bit next week, we decided we'd have our special Gruffalo lunch today...
Scrambled snake, roasted fox, fried mouse, Gruffalo tusks and poisonous warts! |
They really enjoyed trying everything |
Afterwards, we enjoyed owl ice cream... |
...and Gruffalo crumble! |
While Mummy went to set up the next activity, everyone else watched 'The Gruffalo's Child' |
Having a rest |
Next, we headed to Mincinglake Valley Park for a Gruffalo themed treasure hunt |
Collecting a character from the orchard |
Very pleased with himself |
No rest for Daddy! |
Tahlia used her hat to collect interesting things which she plans to take home and put in her treasure box |
Jory and Zachary loved running on ahead to find them all |
Tahlia took photos of some of the things she found on the walk |
Doing some colouring when we got back |
Rearranging the letters to form a Julia Donaldson character not featured in the pictures; it's three words (not necessarily the word length shown here) - can anyone guess the character? |
